Many thanks everyone.
Must confess that I hadn't considered that it might be spelled as
Plewis. I've come across an Eliza Plewis subsequently on 1871, 1881 and 1891 living in Senacre House in Otham, and wonder if this is the lady I'm after - she's down as a widowed housekeeper born in Selling in all three returns. Ref numbers are as follows if anyone wants to look.
1871: RG10/939 38/12
1881: RG11/926 34/2
1891: RG12/685 93/3
What I find interesting are the two 1851 returns that have been mentioned in the thread (many thanks for those
) as in both cases the children are noted as born in
Kent Stoke. Not sure of the geography of that part of Kent (I was a Maidstone lad myself before we moved), but believe that's near Hoo? If that is indeed her it's interesting, as while it does contradict the marriage entry (where father is given as Thomas, rather than Timothy as the census suggests) it would be convenient - partly as I do know the Timothy Twyman there (he was the husband, if I remember correct, of Frances Saven/Savin, and did flit around Selling and Whitstable). I'll have to check in my file when I get home from work about if I know of a daughter Eliza for him.
Thanks again all for all your help and work. It really is appreciated.
