They possibly take the details from the Government Probate website. They have listed my husband who is on the Probate list,  but not someone who died a few days earlier, who's Will did not go to probate, the same undertaker was used for both.

As a generalisation Ancestry have January, February and March 2007 under civil registration 1916-2007 (GRO equivalent)

From experience those that have an April date are likely to be for deaths that occured the last 5 days in March but were registred in April.

If you need something checking, I'm at the London archives every week or so and have access to the death index 2007 to March 1/4 2017 (latest available 2 weeks ago)

Ancestry also has a Death Index, 2007-2015 where they have cobbled together information from all sorts of sources including GreyPower. However the National Association of Funeral Directors, one of the industry's largest associations in the UK, do not encourage their members to submit death information to these types of companies.
