Leach family in Beckwith Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada
« on: Saturday 10 February 18 19:53 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace my Leach (also spelled Leech) ancestors who emigrated from Wexford, Ireland arriving in Canada and settling in Beckwith Township in 1820. I know of a Thomas Leach and William Leach who came over on the passenger ship "Maria". I believe they were the sons of William Leach (b. 1750) and Anne Edwards (b. 1752). Several members of Leach families came to Lanark County between 1819 and 1822. I believe Thomas Leach was born about 1793 and married France Cooke sometime before emigrating. I also believe William Leach was born about 1780 and married Elizabeth Lumas prior to emigrating. I would be so appreciative of any information you are able to provide to me. Thank you in advance.

You are really on top of it Sandra. Great information. The census showed me that all 3 boys were brothers, but it is strange that 2 of them were named William - the oldest was William Henry Leach and the younger one was just William. I guess it makes some kind of sense as their father was also William (1850-killed at Vinegar Hill battle in 1798). Not sure how the William Leach born Ireland 1780 and passed away January 31, 1878 fits in!!
