1930 US census
« on: Tuesday 13 February 18 00:07 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to browse through the US census on Ancestry. I'm looking for a specific address in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. But, in order to do this I need the district number, which I'm unable to find. The address is 1709 Sedgwick Street. Does anyone know how to find the district number for this address please?

Assuming that the street was numbered the same back then as it is today, it is either Enumeration District 16-1585 or 16-1589 according to this site:  https://stevemorse.org/census/unified.html?year=1930

I followed your instructions but unfortunately the person I was hoping to find at this address was not listed. I have a 1929 border crossing document for my relative that states he was going to stay with his aunt Catherine Phillip at 1709 Sedgwick St. Chicago. So I thought it would be safe to find her at this location on the 1930s census. Any suggestions would be most welcome . TIA

Unfortunately I don't have that information. My relative that moved to live with her, first lived in England then moved to Canada for a couple of years and then to the States. Catherine could have been born in England (Kirkham, Lancashire) or Ireland, County Mayo. Not much to go on I know. I don't have anything on Catherine but was hoping this trail would help me to learn how my family migrated to the States from Ireland/England.

There were five people named Catherine Phillip in Chicago who were born in Ireland and two who were born in England.  That includes variants of the first and last names.  Have you checked and eliminated all of them?

What was your relative's name and age?

I saw a few on Ancestry but since the address was not on Sedgwick I disregarded. Perhaps I shouldn't have?

My relative is Vince O'Malley born in Kirkham England in 1900 but identifies as being Irish. On immigration papers he refers to his nearest kin as being from Ireland.

I later have Vince as living in Chicago and marrying Lillian Zinger on 30 Oct 1930. She may have been previously marries to a Griffin.  Vince naturalized in 1938.

I am interested in finding Catherine Phillip to see how she fits into my tree and when she went to the States. Though I'm also gathering info on Vince too.
