Lancelot Hoggarth died Whitbeck 20th December 1903, burial record.

My grandfather and my great grandfather, both called Lancelot Hoggarth died from unrelated deaths, 30 miles apart, within 3 days of each other. I have previously posted this on the Common room site as they lived in different counties and have been informed that  Great grandfather Lancelot who died in Lancashire on the 17th December was buried in Heversham, on the 19th Decenber. This is where his wife and a baby son were buried several years previously.

There appears to be no information for my Grandfather Lancelot born in 1857 and who died at Moor Green farm Whitbeck Cumberland on the 20th December 1903 aged 46 years. He left a wife and seven children, just before Christmas too.

Could anybody help me find his burial, I am unsure which record office may be able to help me. I have read it could be Barrow, Whitehaven or Kendal offices. I am disabled so unable to visit in person so would really appreciate any help you could give me.

As you have his exact date of death - have you tried telephoning or emailing each of the record offices

If he was buried at Whitbeck, the registers 1597-2010 are at Whitehaven Archive Centre. I have always found the staff there extremely helpful.

Thank you, I will try there. The only problem is we don't know where he was buried, but that is a good start. They were tenant farmers and seemed to change address quite often, for instance although he died in Whitbeck in 1903, my mother was born in 1901 near Lancaster. There doesn't appear to be one place they would call 'home'.

Thank you to everybody and especially to clearly for suggesting the Whitehaven Archive centre. I have been in touch with them and have received information that Lancelot was buried at St. Mary's Whitbeck on the 23rd December 1903.
This does seem to be an obvious choice, but my cousin was informed that somebody had checked the records and couldn't find this burial, which is why we were not looking there.
