Uniform identification
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 12:14 GMT (UK) »
Any ideas what this uniform is? I am guessing RAF? But not sure. Bit of a mystery as this chap was meant to be in the Merchant Marine.

Many thanks for any help.

RAF certainly. White flash in his sidecap denoted officer cadet or pilot training or both. Someone will be along soon to be more precise.

I stand to be corrected, but surely his wings denote he was already a qualified pilot.

Sorry Jebber - the "wings" you see is the RAF eagle insignia worn on the upper arms by all RAF other ranks.  Pilots' wings are worn over the left pocket https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=raf+wings+image&id=12037F4EBE4C8B9C83066BFDDE0D9D0FA3AA9240&FORM=IQFRBA
