Yes, that's the one. They do transcribe it as 8. Thank you for confirming this. On the digitalised image of the record there is a squiggle.

Calculating the time between the birth of the orher children (Catherine (11/07/1875), Margaret (04/1877), Eliza Ann (15/04/1879), William James (07/10/1881), George (22/10/1883), Ellen (01/09/1886), Thomas (04/01/1890)), I think the other child must have been born either between George & Ellen / Ellen & Thomas / after Thomas.

John Costley was still living in 1901. He died in 1907. On the 1901 census, John & Eliza were living in Magheramesk (house 1) with their son Thomas and a visitor (Margaret Cassidy - 80 yrs old). Thomas was 11, their only child living with them, so I was thinking he could be their last.

Ah yes William James, this one isn't him...but I remember coming across him during my research. William James is my 2x great grandfather  ;D...
He and his sister Ellen were working for the Irvine family (house 30 Magheramesk) http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Magheramesk/Magheramesk/999623/

Margaret/Maggie was already married by 1901

Not sure for certain but I think this is where George was in 1901
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Aghalee/Ballynanaghten/1002742/

And as I've said earlier, Thomas was living with his parents in Magheramesk in 1901.

I suspect Catherine & Eliza Ann could/should have been married by 1901 based on age.
On the Irish Genealogy site, more recent birth indexes also show the mother's maiden name which helped me find out more about Margaret, her husband & children, but this strategy hasn't worked for Catherine or Eliza Ann. Perhaps they didn't have children during the 1900s.
