Thomas Walsh goes missing 1909?

Martha and Catherine's grandfather is John Abbott, and you can check the births of Walsh children in Salford with mother's mn Abbott on the GRO index to match them with the census record Rosie has found.

Thomas Walsh married Catherine Abbott at St John the Evangelist, Salford (RC) on 14 November 1881. You can see this on the Lancashire OPC site. Thomas' parents are Andrew and Bridget (Latinized as Andrae and Brigittae). Unfortunately the register doesn't give father's occupation, but a copy of the marriage certificate would probably show it.

On the next census I can only see some of the children of Thomas & Catherine, 2 girls with their grandfather and Thomas jnr possibly married.

When Louisa remarried did she say she was widowed

She did.  I was wondering, as it would probably have been seven years since she had last seen Thomas, whether she was presuming that he was dead by that time, and did not necessarily know for sure.  Edward Wilcox was likely the father of her child, Sydney Wilcox Walsh registered in the last Q of 1910.
