Elias St, Toxteth, Everton - 1881 Census

Does anyone know how I can see Elias St, Everton, Lancs, in the 1881 Census - short of going ot Liverpool.   I'm convinced I have an ancester living there.  The 1871 Census for Elias St, is virtually illegible and the place of birth which has been transcribed for my ancester just can't be correct.  I can't read the names of other people on the same street to check if they are still living there 10yrs on.

Starts with William Pountain age 56 born Liverpool

on same page  Patrick Clambell/Clampell age 40 born Ireland

What names are you having trouble with in the 1871 census?

Hi, That was quick.
I have him in the 1871 Census; Thomas Byrne (43) and wife Margaret Byrne (44) at 114 Elias St. Both Ancestry & Findmypast have trasncribed his birth place as, Newport, Wales - which can't be right.  I can make a strong case for it being Maryport, Cumberland but need his 1881 Census doc to be certain. He died in the mid 1880, so my only chance in proving this is by finding him in the 1881 Census. Hopefully, he / they are at the same address with son Thomas born 1872.

The 1871 transcription is correct, it says Newport, Wales.   What you are doubting is whether the enumerator got it wrong

Note that Toxteth is not Everton - Toxteth is  south of Liverpool city centre and Everton is north

I presume young Thomas is Thomas H Burne (Byrne) who in 1891 is with mother Margaret and his mothers sister Ann Griffiths  RG12/2994 f91 p33.

Does Thomas's death registration give an address.

Yes, for some reason he (son) occasionally took the middle name Harold, though he was born Thomas Robinson Byrne (he became a very famous Liverpool magician). I have all his Census docs except 1881 which is why I'm trying to find his parents; Thomas & Margaret.   I've tried for 3 death records (pdf) in 84, 86, 88 and got it wrong. Just waiting on the 1883 one for Toxteth Park which I should get on Tuesday

There is no Birth Index for Thomas Byrne abt 1841 reg Newport, Wales.  There is one for Thomas Byrne, 1841 reg Cockermouth which includes, Maryport.   The mmn on that birth index is Robinson and Thomas & Margaret's son Thomas born 1872 had the middle name Robinson.  Hence, my doubting the Newport, Wales, reference.
