Births that early on in registration were often missed as it was not the responsibility of the parents at that time but down to the registrar.  The system was not changed until the late 1870's.

Do you have the marriage certificate for Thomas & Margaret.

Yes, 6th Sept 1869, St Peter, Liverpool Central.  Margaret's surname Brown.  All names; Thomas, Margaret, Byrne, Brown, very common.   If you are on ancestry, it's all on my public tree, Chris Van Bern & Cora Lister.    I've got to go to my magic club now. Hope to pick up the thread later. Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,
The 1881 Census looks good to me. Margaret Byrne's (nee Brown) mother was Mary Brown (nee Whitfield). She was born 1810 Liverpool and was a widow in 1881.  Margaret was born in 1841 and it shows that she was married (not a widow) and the age for her son Thomas (Robinson) Byrne age 9 is also correct.  So I cant fault the find - thanks.
Unfortunately, it dosn't provide the answer to my original quest i.e. the whereabouts of Thomas Byrne b1841 in the 1881 Census.  Son, Thomas Robinson Byrne b 1872 became Chris Van Bern a famous Liverpool magician. All historians (I'm not one) have written that his parents were probably Irish. The 1871 Census proves that is wrong. His mother Margaret, was clearly born in Liverpool. His father ??   I never add info to my tree unless I have at least 2 pieces of supporting info.  You would have thought that a birth place of Newport, Wales, (in 1871) would stick out like a sore thumb and yet it doesn't evidence itself in 1851, 1861 or 1881.   Hopefully, when I find his death record, the address thereon may provide that vital clue.   I'll let you know - cheers to all.
