Rayboulds of Birmingham
« on: Sunday 11 March 18 23:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am currently researching my husband's family and am asking for any information on the Raybould family living in Bordesley Green, Birmingham around 1871.  Benjamin was a gun barrel maker in the Small Heath area.  The problem I am encountering is that there were so many spellings of the surname - Raybould, Raybold, Reybold, Rybold and there was a Benjamin in every generation.  Thank you for any assistance

Welcome to rootschat, AngiRay.

As there are several Benjamin Rayboulds living at that time, could you give us what you definitely know about him as regards children or marriage or parents, please?
Have you found him and his family in a census?

Thank-you

4 Benjamins in 1871 but just 1 who was a gun barrel filer. Is this him?
RG10; Piece: 3139; Folio: 14; Page: 23

Marriage: Benjamin Raybould & Harriet Pool both of Aston Rd.
2/9/1827 St. Peter's & St. Paul's Aston.
Bachelor aged 21 & spinster aged 20.
both signed in own hand.
Wit: Edward Pool & Sarah Raybould.

There appears to be 3 children:
born:
25/6/28 Harriet, add: Lawrence St. occ: gun barrel filer.
10/4/30 Benjamin, add: Lichfield St. occ: gun barrel maker.
24/5/33 William, add: ditto, occ: ditto.
All Baptised St. Philip's B'ham.

1 birth for a Benjamin Raybold:
July 1806 & Baptised 25/12/1806 to Timothy & Ann Raybold at St. Martin's B'ham.

2 siblings:
1799 James
1805 Sarah (witness on marriage).
Both St. Martin's.
Timothy Raybould (bach.) married Ann Gold (widow) 23/7/1798 at St. Martin's.
Wit: William & Sarah Rudhall.

Ann is possibly Ann Wetstone m. Wm. Gold 1791 St. Martin's.
There's a death there in 1793 for a Wm. Goold who may be him.

You'll notice in 1851 there's an Emma Poole visitor from Worcester. She married Benjamin the son.
His mother Harriet nee Pool was also from Worcester so they may be related which is something else to look out for.
