Thanks for the correction 'Dundee', you're right, Private Robert Robertson and Janet Page were married 12 Dec. 1842 in Chatham, and so 'matthewj64' could be correct about the sailing date, maybe leave Dublin on 20th Dec. and pick up troops from Chatham on the 27th? Who would know? Their first child Robert was born at sea. I have one transcription that states his Sydney Baptism Date was 29 Sept. 1843, but another, identical in all respects re names of parents etc., has Baptism Date as 26th Nov. 1843. The 1861 Scottish Census lists the whole family back in Perthshire and Robert's age as 18, which would make his birth year 1843. The 1871 Census in Scotland has his age as 27, born at sea, birth year 1844. The 1881 Census has him aged 38, born at sea, birth year 1843, 1891 census says birth year 1843 also. GRO Regimental Birth Indices transcription has Robert Robertson b. 1843. It also has correct birth years for his 4 siblings, Nicholas, Alexander, Mary and James. So it looks like it was the 'North Briton' they may have sailed with. Thanks everyone!

There are a number of possibilities for arrival of the 99th in Aug/Sep 1843.  You really need to look at the musters and pay lists to find out which ship they were on.

You need to consult the AJCP handbook first to find the correct microfilm.  I have previously been allowed to borrow these on inter library loan.

Boomeranger, you probably already know about these letters, but I'll post the link in case it holds clues for others.

Yes matthewj64, I have the original of the first one, written by my  G-G-Grandfather and brought with me to Australia from Scotland, many years before I even knew who he was! I have an image of the envelope of a third one, no contents known, so maybe someday someone will post that one too.

Must be amazing to have!

Robert was sent almost immediately to Norfolk Island for 12 months and landed back in Sydney in February 1845, so he probably originally arrived in early 1844 from a voyage starting 1843.

The Henrietta arrived at Hobart Town 19 November 1843 inc. 99th reg. and "two children born"
1843 'SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.', The Courier (Hobart, Tas. : 1840 - 1859), 24 November, p. 2. , viewed 15 Mar 2018, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article2951816

...having a look but can't see mention of the births in the surgeons journal
edit - also onboard was Dr West of the 99th reg. who perhaps took responsibility for the births

add - arrival in Sydney 13 Dec 1843
