Cap badge ID help, please
« on: Monday 19 March 18 11:20 GMT (UK) »
According to this man's WWI Medal Card and Medal Roll entries he served with the Lincolnshire Regiment and then with the Leicestershire Regiment.  I'm familiar with the Leicestershire cap badge and know that's not what's shown in the photo, and having looked up the Lincolnshire one, it doesn't (to me) look like that either.   ???

Can anyone help, please?
Thanks

It looks like the Lancashire Fusiliers to me.

I agree with Frank.

Remember, a medal card shows only the regiments a man served with overseas so an earlier/later sojourn in the Lancashire Fusiliers wil not show (except on his full record).

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

STG, Have you looked to see if his record survives?

Do you have a name you could give, if you can't do a record search  :)

Oh, definitely see what you mean and he was from Manchester.

Only the Medal Card and Roll survive, so his pre-Lincolnshire Regiment military history will have to remain something of a mystery.

Thanks

Is there any way of telling, from the photo, whether it was the beginning or the end of the War - because I'd really like to list his regiments in date order?

The only information on this is that he's an L/Cpl. so unless he's a full timer this would be well into the war.
He's also wearing the earlier style of tunic (1908-15).
As Frank said a name & number might help so we can take a look.
