Mauritius - Army Service Records WW2 - Where to find them????
« on: Friday 23 March 18 01:16 GMT (UK) »
Seeking please information on steps required to access service records of Mauritian Army Soldiers who served under the British Army banner during WW2?

I have checked the Defence site in the UK but there feedback is less than satisfactory. I have looked at various websites but am frustrated by the absence of information about these men who served during WW2. I am attempting to find the record of my wife's grandfather who fought in the Middle East & possibly at Tobruk. It would be wonderful to be able to source this detail which would make my wife & other family very happy indeed.

Thanking you.

Cheers
Rob

Presumably you didn't take the advice I offered in January 1917 about contacting Glasgow as a first step?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Hi Max, yes I had a look at that site but found it a trifle convoluted difficult to navigate to what I want. However will have another go! Thanks Rob

If the site you are referring to is:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/overview and it still gives you problems, let us know what the problem(s) is/are and we can help further I am sure.

Do be aware though that you won't find an on-line record and my suggestion that you ring the good folks at Glasgow to confirm they have Mauritian records still stands as a good way of starting.
