Lost Family member Miriam Sydney Wood.
« on: Friday 30 March 18 00:18 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help with information or guide me to finding a lost family member in NY.

She was Miriam Sydney Wood born 1898 in NY, her Father was George H Wood died 1912
Mother Miriam Wood nee Ainsworth died unknown.

The lead or information to date that I can find on Miriam Sydney Wood was that she was a Student nurse at Millard Fillmore Hospital, r875 Lafayette Avenue.

Name
Miriam Wood

Residence Year
1926

Residence Place
Buffalo, New York, USA

Occupation
Student Nurse

Publication Title
Buffalo, New York, City Directory, 1926

On the 1920 US census it shows Miriam Sydney Wood as US Army nurse stationed at the Henry Ford ?General hospital in Baltimore.
In 1918 she was a second lieutenant.

Any help finding out what happen to her after 1926 would be most appreciated as I have no other leads. I don't know if she got married after 1926.

Kind regards
Nattai  Tim

I am confused.  You say she was a nurse in 1920, yet in 1926 she was a student nurse?  And she was a 2nd Lt. at age 20?

Sorry to confuse you but that is what is states on the documents. Do you have any other evidence to indicate that the Miriam Wood in the Buffalo city directory is definitely the one you're looking for?  It's a common enough name that they may be another who is a nurse.

There was another Miriam Wood from Brooklyn [born 1892] who applied for passports in 1918, 1920 and 1922 for Red Cross "relief work" in Europe and the Middle East.  Her profession was secretary but maybe her work inspired her to come back and go to nursing school.

Possible collaboration with Robert G. Bernreuter who did his Ph.D. studies in clinical psychology in Hawaii in the 1920s.

"This manual is typewritten "tentative edition" by Bernreuter and Miriam S. Wood. First page is an organization chart including names of personnel, descriptions of the responsibility of personnel, instructions for intake interview, explanations of forms used."  [written in 1931?]

That Miriam lists her father as Thomas Alfred Wood in her passport applications, but the father of the Miriam in this thread was George H. Wood.

Yes, that's why I said she was "another" Miriam Wood and possibly the one who was a student nurse in 1926.
