Where did you find that mothers name clarke? Didn't  think mothers maiden name was recorded till 1913

I know registration started in 1837 but mothers maiden name wasn't recorded till 1913 so where did you find information that it was clarke?

You can now search the birth and death indexes online directly at the GRO site www.gro.gov.uk

You have to register for free with a user name and password to do the searches.

Their entries show mother's maiden names before 1911, they were always recorded but never published in the earlier entries until now.

The GRO site death index also shows the age at death before 1866 which the printed and published indexes do not.

Didn't know about GRO search having changed might help me with some  other family members
