Richard Jeffries - what did he go to prison for? Shipston on Stour

My GGGGF was tried on 2nd July 1867 and imprisioned. He was born in 1819 in Long Compton and died 1896 in Shipston on Stour, where he lived most of his life I believe.

Can anyone help me track what he went to prison for please?

From prison registers on FindMyPast:

2nd July 1867 at Warwick Midsummer Quarter Sessions.

Richard Jeffries, sentenced to 1 year for 'Larceny Simple - before convicted of felony'. This alludes to the fact that he had a previous conviction for a felony.

There is also this:

6th April 1858 at Warwick Quarter Sessions.

Richard Jefferies, sentenced to 8 months for 'Larceny Simple - before convicted of felony'. Was there yet another prior conviction, I wonder?

Hmmm, seems there was!

30th June 1856 at Warwick Quarter Sessions.

Richard Jefferies, sentenced to 4 months for 'Larceny by Servant'.

A newspaper report also:

The Royal Leamington Spa Courier and Warwickshire Standard, 10th April 1858, Page 4.

Under the heading of 'Second Court, there is a list of sentences handed down to various people including:

'Richard Jeffery alias Jeffries (35), for stealing at Long Compton on the 28th December 1857, one bundle of wood and eleven poles, the property of John Gillett; eight months, hard labour.

I didn't see anything for the 1856 & 1867 court appearances in the newspapers.

Thank you.  Like most of my ancestors, he was an agricultural labourer. I'm guessing he was probably nicking off the boss.
