Tas Convict - HALL 1830
« on: Saturday 05 May 18 10:38 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,

Looking for the death or any news of Ann Tabitha HALL last noted in Tas convict records in 1837.
She was sentenced in Warwickshire Assizes in 1830 to 7 years. (Arriv on "America" 1831)
Launceston Advertiser March 1837 noted that her Cert of Freedom would be available 27.12.1837.

She's the daughter of James & Tabitha - born 1793, originally from Birmingham.

Ann Tabitha had been in trouble with the law most of her life. Her mother had been transported in 1807 ("life" in NSW). Don't need other family info thanks.

I have the basic details from Tas Convict Archives between 1830-1837 but nothing after that date.

Any further info would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Di

Ann HALL m 1/11/1837 Richard Dickinson, Consent of Government, Launceston TAS(source Tasmanian Archives Name index)
Possible death: Richard Dickinson d 1874 age 62 Launceston Trove nla"Nottingham papers pls copy"
(Mary) Ann Dickinson d 1 Dec 1839 Launceston age 36 Cause of death "decline"

If you can find a (convict) record for RD to see if he came from Nottingham, his age and also Ann Hall's dob then these may be your couple.

Thanks for your help Stephanie

There appears to be a few female convicts called Ann Hall. My lady was born in 1793 making her about 37 or 38 when arrested in 1830. Frustratingly Mary Ann (Dickinson nee Hall) was too young to be a near match although I guess she may have amended her age a bit.

Records I've seen consistently reported her name as "Ann Tabitha", never just "Ann" but her death or later records may be reported differently.

I appreciate your help

Di

Yes you are right, Trove has her certificate of freedom as Ann Tabitha Hall and its quite unusual to have middle names given for convicts.

I am wondering whether we could do with some of that information after all. Could you please confirm that "Hall" was her maiden name as implied in the original question (as no surname was given for her parents) ... Or, was "Hall" her married name and was her maiden name something different (for example "Boor(e)")?

Familysearch: Ann Tabitha Boore b 1793 to James and Tabitha Boore m 1817 John Hall. All St Martin, Birmingham,Warwickshire.
Her TAS convict record also handwritten as Tabatha Ann Hall.
