The free DNA test offer from MyHeritage.
« on: Friday 18 May 18 08:10 BST (UK) »
Several weeks ago I applied for one of the free tests. The website, and an email 3 weeks ago said that applicants would be advised whether or not they had been successful in their application by the 16th of May. I haven't heard anything yet. I wondered if anyone else had heard either way.

I applied too, I only heard back on the 18th of this month that I was successful and will be getting the testing kit soon. It says they are posting out on the 30th, so it could take up to a week to arrive

Exactly the same for me. I am so excited. I could never have afforded to pay for one.

It intrigues me. I’m adopted so I know nothing of my actual biological roots. I know what my surname was before being adopted but that’s all. It will certainly be interesting!

My late father only found out in his late 50s that he had been adopted by his grandparents after his mother handed him over. For his whole life he thought that his birth mother was his older sister. Both his mother and grandmother must have thought they were taking the secret to the grave, but he found out when he applied for a 10-year passport in the mid 1980s. Because of a family Rift I only found out the truth a couple of years ago, and I subsequently found out that his mother had two further relationships in the 1930s and I now have a cousin in Australia who I will be meeting for the first time next month, and another cousin as well. I hope that my DNA test might tell me more about the whole story.

I will report back when I get my test results. I am going to be so busy understanding the whole subject of DNA.
