Gibson family (Knockbracken and Lisnabreeny)
« on: Friday 18 May 18 20:08 BST (UK) »
A connection of mine, Samuel Gibson (1833-83), was a Pharmacist. He is mentioned in a Will dated 1905, which also makes references to Alexander Gibson of Knockbracken, whose parents were: James Gibson (1828-97) and Letitia Clawson,  also Elizabeth Gibson (born 1874), whose parents were: John Gibson (1823-92) of Lisnabreeny and Martha Beatty. These two townlands were adjoining, and I think
located in the Parish of Knockbreda. Does anyone know if Samuel (1833-83) was a relation of these other families?

When Samuel Gibson married Ann Duffield in 1864, his father was given as as Samuel Gibson, farmer.  Likewise, his sisters' marriages (Martha Gibson to James Hogg in 1869 and Mary Ann Gibson to Alexander Sinclair in 1863 - mentioned as brothers-in-law in Samuel's will which can be read on the PRONI website) also show the father as Samuel Gibson, farmer.

Belfast Telegraph, 14 August 1883: FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. GIBSON.  The remains of the late Mr. Gibson were this morning removed for interment from his residence, Montpellier, to the Borough Cemetery.  The Rev. John H. Moore conducted the service in the deceased gentleman's late residence prior to the removal of the remains, which were conveyed in a four-horse hearse, and followed by a very large and representative cortege to the family vault in the Borough Cemetery.  The chief mourners were Messrs. Samuel, William, and Robert Gibson, sons ; Mr James Gibson, brother ; and Messrs. John Campbell, Edward Sinclair, James Hogg, Wm. Harper, and John McDowell, brothers-in-law.  The cortege included most of the members of the Corporation, of which the deceased gentleman was until lately a member.
