Ayerst/Carrigan
« on: Tuesday 22 May 18 15:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm trying to find information on Ayerst family.   All I have at the moment is information from the 1881 Canadian census for Toronto.   Head of family is Francis (or Frank) Ayerst, age 22, born in England.   Wife is Margaret Ayerst (ne้ Carrigan), age 20, born in Ireland.   Son Francis Perry Ayerst, age 9 months, born in Ireland.   Any information on dates, place of birth, parents etc of Margaret Carrigan and son greatly appreciated.   Presumably they married in Ireland and emigrated to Canada sometime late 1880 or early 1881.
Thanks Dave

Looking at the Canadian Census I believe that Francis Perry AYERST was born in Canada
The census shows an "O" for Ontario
He was born with twelve months in June (1880)
He died on Jan 11 1889 aged 8 years and 6 months

There is a Frank ARGAST on the 1871 census in Addington, Ontaria aged 12 which if Francis Snr would imply that he married in Canada rather than Ireland
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley

I would say it was misread as the child's name is below his mother's and she is shown as Ireland
he is shown as "O" and could be misinterpreted as ditto
