Catherine (Kate) walsh
« on: Thursday 24 May 18 10:16 BST (UK) »
Kate was my father's sister. Born at Charleston, New Zealand to Patrick Walsh and Bridget Hennigan in 1879. Story told by family is that she went to Australia but family said after a time all contact was lost. A family tree states that she died in 1908 this has never been confirm.  Is there anyone who could possibly confirm this it would be be most gratefully appreciated.

Does the family tree say if she was married?

Does it say where she died?  Australia or NZ?

Have you checked BDM indices for all Australian states?

Could she have gone to another (third) country and died there?

I had a quick look for both Kate/ and Catherine WALSH

familysearch
No matching deaths in Australia in 1908
No matching marriages in Australia 1890-1930
one death for Catherine b1879 (1913, Townsville)
widening the search for birth 1877-1881 gives over 80 entries (many duplicated) 1879-1930, but I haven't checked them yet.

New Zealand registers

https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/home
marriages only list spouses' names - no details of parents without purchasing.
No deaths 1879-1930 matching age

Is this the death on the family tree?

BURNS Catherine

Patrick & Bridget
At BALMAIN SOUTH

If it is not, would you mind citing the correct one please?
Difficult to confirm or otherwise without the entire information.

The above date of death is 19/5/1908 and this is prob her burial at Rookwood Catholic cemetery (age 53 so not the right one as OP’s Catherine ”Kate” age was 29 at death in 1908)
BURNS, Catherine; Service date 20 May 1908; Age 53 ; Location: SEC*M2*Q**1171

Thank you so much for all the replies.  Firstly Kate was not married as far as we know and was said to have broken contact with the family so it is assumed that she died.  My father said that she  had gone to Australia had been in contact with family then it stopped because there had been some flu epidemic at the time they assumed that she had passed away.  The family tree with her mentioned is correct but I do not know how correct the date of death is the date 1908 could be incorrect think it states she died in NSW. It is a little strange as you would have thought that someone would have made some contact with family is she had died.
I do really appreciate the effort put in by those replying to my post.
