My best guess is that Boar, Bear and Furze were western allied ships used in WW1. Perhaps the scribbles represented escape attempts or just to keep track on what was going on. It's a long shot but "Furze" seems otherwise refer to areas of Devon and Ireland that were not (as far as I know) invaded in WW1.

Was he a prisoner of war when he had the photo? Or is that piece of information unrelated to the photograph itself?

Dowrid and Furse are unusual words. Maybe they are a list of surnames?

Information is on the back of his photo
He is wearing boxing gloves , he is known to be a prisoner of war in Germany but don’t know if it was taken whilst a prisoner , the words made me curious as I couldn’t understand

They are very curious. Perhaps uploading the photo onto here might help identify the date, and thus the relevance of his POW years to the mystery?

this is the photo, he was a prisoner at sennelager Germany but not sure if this photo was there,

I was just drawn to the code like info on back of photo
