Hi all
Moved on a little with this Great Uncle and now believe Walter Edward Bartlett died in March 1933.

He married Dorothy Beatrice Bull in July 1927 and his occupation was recorded as Marine Lightship Officer.

A lady on another site has him on her tree and her mother distantly recalls him dying of food poisoning from eating food from an opened can. Tried old newspapers but unable to find a news item. I believe lightship and lighthouse crew often worked four weeks on and two weeks off, so not sure when this event happened and whether he spent time in hospital.

Could any kind soul please look up the bereavement in a North London newspaper ?
Many thanks in advance

Very few London newspapers are online so anyone looking for you at a local archive would need to have a more exact date.  Perhaps purchase of the death certificate would give this and indicate whether there was an inquest

Hi did Dorothy B Bartlett remarry a William J Leaper in 1942 and was she born 17th March 1895 and die June qtr 1985 as Dorothy Leaper b 17th March 1895 Colchester aged 90?

The Enfield address for her in 1939 is out of place for a man used to marine life?

Hi "Keyboard86"
Not really sure where he was based but Dorothy seems to have stayed at the same home in Enfield until at least 1939 - six years after he died. She seems to have had a lodger or friend for a couple of years based on the London electoral rolls.

I have pondered the situation at length and come up with the following facts

Born Sidcup 1905
Moved to Northants 1910
Left home at 15 or 16 and became a mariner
Salied between London and Argentina for Blue Funnel
At around age 22 became a Lightship Officer
At age 22 married a lady 7 years older than him
At age 28 passed away apparently from food poisoning

The one fact I don't know is at what age Walter started living with Dorothy. The wedding certificate has them sharing the same address.

I will order the death certificate and see whether anything comes to light on that.

Many thanks

Wedding certificates often show the same address. :)

If the couple live in separate parishes banns would have to be called in each parish so it is quite possible they only 'lived' at the same address for the 3 weeks prior to marriage

Let us know when you get the death certificate.  Don't forget you can get a PDF copy of the entry from the GRO for £6.  https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

Thanks for the notes Rosie.
I went online on Friday afternoon and ordered the pdf version for £6. Checked today and it should be available to me tomorrow 7th June.
Will report back

PS My father suffered a stroke last week and passed away in his sleep yesterday morning. I was fortunately able to speak to him prior to the stroke and let him know the hunch over his uncle. Glad I got it to him "in time"

I am really sorry to hear about your father.  It is good though that you were able to share some information with him.  :)
