You might try an email to St. Matthew cemetery.  His parents are there, yet only Susan shows up on their database.  Maybe Albert is there also.

I sent an email to the cemetery but they didn't have any record of Albert but again, they didn't have any record of William either. So I think its a possibility that he may be out there... I have actually had someone go out to verify in the cemetery if Albert was there near Susan but he was not. That was actually how we found William. With a 40k grave amount I think it would be very difficult to hunt him down. I am hoping I can find an obit somewhere. There seems to be no death certificates or indexes for him in either Missouri or Illinois for that time.

Daughter Lucy possibly also marries in Trenton, 1897:

https://archive.org/stream/historicaldescri00illi/historicaldescri00illi_djvu.txt
 - this book from 1894 mentions Emma and her daughter Lucy, her husband having died "about two years ago", a year after opening photographic studios in two locations in Illinois.

Yes, I have this information and a .pdf copy of the book. To me it would sound like Albert would have been a relatively "Known" person in the community with a publication talking about his wife taking over the business. There must be some mention in a newspaper somewhere of his passing. Unfortunately, Newspapers.com and Newspaperarchive.com did not have the local papers for Breese, Illinois. I haven't reached out to there public library in Breese but I probably need to contact them to see if by chance they have any papers in their reference section that would have been around that time.

That same article says the St. Louis location was closed following Albert's death.  Is it logical to surmise that he was in charge of that studio and was living there when he died?

Agreed. Or maybe he lived and Breese, Illinois and commuted back and forth weekly?.. I see that the distance is pretty far for the 1890's for a day trip. I got a distances of 48 Miles one way. Since it doesn't appear that the state governments don't have documentation about his death I think there must be something documented by a Newspaper or at least a church. Strangely , there was no info in the St. Louis Paper which I would thought it would have reported death if they knew about it.

I actually wonder if he just up and left. On reading the bit in the "Enterprising towns of Illinois" it seems to suggest that the wife was the driving "Artist" behind the business, and I just wonder if his "artistic" (as per the 1880 census) temperament could no longer deal with it, considering his daughter was an up and coming star in the field alongside with his wife.

What information were you hoping that the death certificate would provide?

This looks like it might be the person you were looking for, although it's a shame that it doesn't mention what town he was born in (in Switzerland) and it doesn't show the name of the informant (person who reported the death, which is sometimes a spouse).  Also odd that apparently the newspaper doesn't have this obit, but I guess that this sometimes happens.
