Help with old death certificate
« on: Sunday 10 June 18 01:45 BST (UK) »
So I'm looking for a bit of help... I'm researching my family tree and have come across a death certificate of my great great grandparents child who died at 2 days old and I cannot for the life of me figure out what the baby died of. I've been staring at for hours! Can anyone work out what it says!? It's the word or words above the line that says from birth

It's the second extract for Matilda Virtue died aged 2 days

Yeah it is a Scottish certificate I'll post the whole certificate. It may be easier to see the rest of the handwriting

Why is written the way it is  ::)

In my mind I need it to say 'Mass Deterioration' but square pegs & round holes on that  ;D

Want of ___

from birth

Perhaps the word is meant to be 'strength', similar to inanition.

Thanks Deborah I've had a few people suggest it may say want of something so you could be right

The new image is far easier to see than the original one you posted as it seemed enlarged/out of focus etc?

I think Debra has nailed it  ;)
