Thanks for that link MaxD, interesting reading, I might be able to track down a map made by him one day perhaps. WOuld you by any chance know what base it woud be on his medical records when he was noted as recieving a laceration (in 98) it's hard to read. Just curious really no real relevance to my research. If it was Ireland may have been a local not happy about the work they were doing.

It is Cockburnspath in Scotland, probably detached while centred at York 97-99.  Walked into a barbed wire fence perhaps while tramping the hills measuring things!

Ah thanks for that, Scotland too, he did get around. Might have sconed himself with his own tools too, something I would most likely do.
