Flood Family Ballymore Eustace
« on: Monday 18 June 18 22:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My second great grandfather Richard Flood (1850-?) was born in Clondalkin in Dublin. He married Margaret Keogh of of Lugadowden, Woodlawn, Ballymore Eustace and lived there.
Margaret Keogh's Parents were Darby (Jeremiah) Keogh and Joanna ???
Richard and Margaret were married on 22nd November 1871 at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Ballymore Eustace.
Richard Flood and Margaret Keogh had six children that i are aware of; Michael Jeremiah (b. 12th November 1872), Maria Christina (b. 6th December 1873 - 1874), Francis Joseph (b. 4th December 1874), Joanna Margaret (b. 30th March 1876), Richard (b. 30th January 1878) and Teresa Mary (b. 9th November 1880). Richard b 1878 was my great grandfather and married Mary Anne Walsh.
It seems the Keogh family were farmers in Lugadowden and Richard took over his father in law’s land holding after his marriage to Margaret Keogh.
After this date i cannot find any information of the Floods family. I have tried to locate where in Ballymore they family lived but i am also unable to locate the farm land.
regards
Paul

Richard Flood died 1887, at Drimnagh Lodge (which you know of) his address was Woodlawn Ballymore Eustace

Have you checked Griffith's Valuation?

Hi Sinann,
I checked Griffiths Valuation and it came back with no matches at all.
Ah so this is the same Richard Flood that died in Drimnagh Lodge.
That is brilliant, thank you so much for this. I always thought Michael Flood lived in Drimnagh Lodge,
regards
Paul

Jeremiah Keogh is the Landlord of the only house in Lugadowden in GV, the building in the link above and another house are on the map, a bigger version of the second house shows on the 25" Historic map on the OSI but is marked as Lugadowden so perhaps the first building was Woodlawn or the second house had it's name changed.

To find it use Griffith's Places and search for Lugadowden

that is perfect. I have always searched by Ballymore Eustace and not Lugadowden.
I also found tonight that the second Parochial House was donated by Keoghs of Lugadowden.
After looking at the maps i see Lugadowden is also spelt Loggadowden and see Darby Keogh was in Tithes, http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004625726/004625726_00033.pdf

By 1901 the De Burgh's have Lugadowden, but Margaret was in trouble in 1888.

Michael Flood brother is the informant on the death cert
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1887/06225/4781485.pdf
so looks like Richard died in his brother's house, probably easier for doctors to see him there than in the foot hills of the Wicklow mountains.
