Sarah Sutton Witness name?
« on: Friday 29 June 18 17:29 BST (UK) »
Hello
I'm looking for the parents of my 5th grt grandmother Sarah Sutton.
She marries Henry Ellis 24 Oct 1837 Ratby.
Sarah lists her father as 'John Sutton, Labourer'.
And on all census records her birthplace is given as Barlestone and a birthdate of 1813-1816, I cant seem to find a baptism relating to a Sarah in Barlestone and the only Suttons baptising in Barlestone is a John Sutton and an Elizabeth. I cant see any Sarah baptised to these parents though.

One lead I may have is a witness on Sarahs marriage but I cant make out the first name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

*Merged with post from the Leicestershire Sub-Thread*
Hello
I cant seem to make out the witnesses first name on my 5th grt grandmothers marriage and it could give me a hint to her parentage.

I can make out an 'S' and maybe 'L'?? I should probably brush up on handwriting, I'm sure its something obvious but I can't for the life of me read it.

The Marriage is between Sarah Sutton and Henry Ellis.
24 Oct 1837 Ratby, Leicestershire. Sarah gives her father as John Sutton, Labourer.
I have already posted earlier on in the Leicestershire sub-thread.

There is a Soloman Sutton bapt 1811 Woodhouse, Leicestershire but to a father George.
Sarah was born around 1815 in Barlestone and likely to be the daughter of John Sutton 1760-1842 and Elizabeth Pool 1785-1863
There is no baptism for a Sarah but she says she is born in Barlestone, Leic on all records and this is the only Sutton family in Barlestone.
There could be some connection to this Solomon though as he is a witness and Sarah names one of her sons George.

Only possible showing in Leicestershire  on the 1841 is a Solomon - maybe the o was just missed.

I see this Solomon is living in St Margarets on census.
Sarah does name 2 of her sons George and Edward (Solomons father is George and he has a brother called Edward) maybe just a co-incidence though.

Of the baptisms for the John and Elizabeth in Barlestone there is only a couple and none of them fit the name of the witness.

Stumped on this one  ???

Found a death for a Solomon Sutton  Q1, 1881, Leicester RD. Aged 69. i.e b.c. 1812.

.. but not sure as Ratby was in Market Bosworth RD. I suppose he could have moved.

Added - fits with you 1811 bpt.
