Help with Catholic Baptisms in Carlisle Cumberland 1860's
« on: Wednesday 04 July 18 14:57 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I believe my great grandmother Margaret Ann Martin was born in Carlisle about 1864 to Patrick Martin and I believe Margaret Raglan. Are there any catholic baptism records that would be available to search that anyone knows of please or could look up for me to confirm this. I am located in Australia.

Hi Rosie

Patrick Martin and Margaret married in Ireland (don't know where). All their children were born in Carlisle( I am sure I have the right family for Margaret Ann as have DNA matches). There children were Mary 1856, John 1859, Edward 1862, Margaret Ann abt 1864, Elizabeth 1866, Sarah Jane 1870 and Hugh  1872. I cannot find  the birth registration for Marg Ann and on the 1871 census it looks like her name may have been Mary Ann. All the other children were registered in Carlisle. there was 1 Margaret born in 1864 (not her). I got the birth cert for one of the other children and mother was listed as Margaret Hanley. On Margaret Ann's death cert in Scotland mother is listed as Marg Raglan (she was listed as senile at time). Margaret Ann married a William Irving Dec 1884 Cockermouth registration district. He was not Catholic. So I was hoping there was a way to trace her baptism.

Regards Linda
