Hi

Had a look for the London one but nothing solid.

A George H. Burke married at Ada Maratta (Moratta) Cook1912 and the had children. Ada M. Burke is in the 1939 register and date of birth is 1889 and she dies 1977.

It might be worth you getting a copy of either the marriage or death certificate for this George H. Burke.

Derbyshire  Times and Chesterfield Herald 4th Jan 1893 has  a piece about an assault on a Policeman by three men, two Hall brothers and a George Burke all colliers from Shirebrook.
George was drunk at the time and his brother tried to stop him, he was sentenced to 2 yrs hard labour.

I think the newspaper article may be the right George.  His elder brother William Henry Burke. lived at Shirebrook. and George is at his home in the 1891 census. George must have felt a bit left out. Hie eldest brother Thomas was in Sheffield married with a family.  William Burke. (my g grandfather ). was in Shirebrook with a family. .  His mother had died. His father remarried and returned to Ireland  taking his youngest brother Hugh with him.   I must see if I can get more details about the assault and prison sentence.   Thank you all for you  greatly appreciated.   Tineke

Hi

I saw the other GRO transcription so I looked at the page and it looks like Huleham.

The entry on the GRO index available on the GRO website comes from a different source to the indexes available to view on freebmd.    I understand that Ancestry & F M P  both 'pull' this information over from freebmd so their records will be identical as Hulehan.

I have been in touch with a cousin who tells me that an elderly relative told her that George did have a criminal record .He was very close to brother William Henry as they were very young when their father left them to go back to Ireland.   George lived with William and his family for a while at Shirebrook. The last record I have of George is the 1891 census when he is at Williams house .
If George was sentenced to 2 years in prison  in 1893 he must have been released about. 1895 or 1896.  The question is now what became of him ? Where do I go from here ?
Thank you all for your help  ,much appreciated. Tineke

Ada Morratta & George Henry are on electoral rolls in Camberwell in 1934/1935/1936/1937.

Can't look but if Ada was shown as a widow in 1939 he must have died recent to that.

He's not there in 1938 and Ada is elsewhere in 1939 so the death for George Henry should give his age.

Death Dec 1937 Camberwell age 48.  Born c1889 so I think you can rule this chap out.
