James Steel, Mariner, b. 1809, in Sunderland, Durham, England
« on: Tuesday 24 July 18 15:06 BST (UK) »
Hello there,

I am wondering if someone might be able to help me locate a baptism record for James Steel, born on August 15, 1809, in Sunderland, Durham. His father was John Steel, but I do not have his mother's name. I do know that from at least 1826 to 1851 (perhaps longer) he was a mariner, and at some point moved to London. He is my g-g-g-g grandfather and I'd like to try to go a little farther back in time, or find out if he had siblings.

Thank you so much for any help you might be able to provide, it is very much appreciated.

Erik

Hi Erik. Welcome to Rootschat  :)

I hope you don;'t mind me pointing out that Sunderland is, and always has been, very much in County Durham, not Northumberland!  I have asked a moderator to move this posting to the correct county board.

Hi Rosie, thanks so much. Would you have a link to that record by chance? I don't think I've seen it.

Thanks Jen, sorry about the duplicate post. Thank you for the correction and any help. I see that the geography is a bit tricky.

Much appreciated!
