Newcastle Upon Tyne looking for names of children
« on: Thursday 26 July 18 07:46 BST (UK) »
Alexander Chicken = Maria Gascoigne m. 1922 Newcastle Upon Tyne
They had 9 children
The eldest child was called Dorothy Ann Chicken b.1924
I would be grateful if anyone could help me find who the other 8 children were.

Regards
Margaret

Welcome to rootschat

We are not allowed to post details on here of anyone who could still be living.  If you go to

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
and put into birth search surname Chicken mmn Gascoigne it should list children of this marriage

ADDED you can also use that site to search for possible marriages

Welcome to RootsChat.

Using rosie99's method I can see 8 children between 1922 and 1936.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Welcome to RootsChat

Two children might also be registered with the mother's maiden name  Gascine   - possibly mistranscribed  :-\

This was my first post and I appreciate the replies to my query. I have looked up freebmd as advised and hope the children are correct that I have found. I think the first census some of these children would be on is 1931 which I believe would not be available until at least 2032. Are there any other sources I could check to confirm that I have the correct children without having to order copy Birth Certificates which may not belong to the family.

There is no census for 1931 it was destroyed by fire during WW2.  The 1939 pre war register is available on Ancestry & FindMyPast

The GRO index shows 11 possible children for the couple two of whom died in infancy
Deaths Dec qtr 1925
Chicken    Isabella M   age 0
Newcastle T.    10b   216

Deaths Jun qtr 1936
Chicken    Alexander   age  0
Newcastle T.    10b   86

Hi rosie99
I have looked at the 1939 registers and found a couple of people but it said on one record:
Joseph W Graham and 5 more people are on this record
1 more person who is officially closed
I have never done these records before and wanted to ask if I viewed these registers at my local library would I see the other 5 people on the record?
I assume the 1 more person who is officially closed record is because they are still alive.

I have also tried to look up the GRO indexes but it said Historic Birth and Death Records
 - Birth 1837 - 1917 and Death 1837 - 1957.
The Births would be from 1924.
Please can you tell me how you found the information in the GRO index of the 11 possible children?Sorry to sound stupid but I have not done either of these records before.
Regards
Margaret

The children were found using  https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl - from 1913 the mother's maiden name is indicated in the birth registrations  - follow rosie99's instructions and use the start date of 1922 and the end date of 1936.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

BumbleB many thanks for your reply. As you can see I thought I had to use GRO Index on the GRO site and not freebmd for the information. Thankyou for guiding me much appreciated.
On the 1939 Registers can I unlock the household at my library on Find My Past? I have not used these 1939 Registers before.
