colliery in morpeth in 1939
« on: Tuesday 07 August 18 16:22 BST (UK) »
Hello, just searching for the family of an aunt, I found them in Dalton Ave Morpeth... he is a Hewer... all the neighbours, well, most, are also listed as in the colliery... any idea what colliery that would have been that people in dalton ave would have worked at?

Possibly this one

Morpeth Banks Colliery
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Dalton Avenue wasn't in Morpeth itself, it was (and still is) in Lynemouth.
It fell within Morpeth Rural District.

As they were in Lynemouth, it was most likely Lynemouth Colliery http://www.dmm.org.uk/colliery/l013.htm
