From dau Elizabeth Hope christening father David Francis Jones Barrister at Law address Gt.Russell St. Bloomsbury.

1851 census shows the family in Hastings, Ann Margaret 63 is a widow of Serjeant at Law with 4 children plus servants but her and the children now have the surname ATCHERLEY ?

There is a death in St Giles 1845 of a David Francis Atcherley.

Don't know where this leaves it with him being involved in a case in 1849?

All has been revealed. David Francis Jones changed his name in accordance with his late uncle Richard Atcherley's will.

Obituary for DF in the Gentlemans Magazine 1845

Very comprehensive tree on line.

I'm very grateful to all who have answered my question. You're a great lot.

Ar gyfer Hanes Teulu-
I've taken out a sub to FindMyPast and can't find the obituary for TW Jones in the Northwich Guardian 29 July 1867, only a notice of his death and the company can't provide any help. Did you find it somewhere else?

Don

Are you familiar with OCR? In this case, although Thomas' obit includes the words "Thomas Wyndham Jones" the "Wyndham" element has NOT been read and captured correctly on the database. Effectively, it doesn't exist.

I had found the item on British Newspaper Archive (BNA) searching for "Thomas Jones", applying filters (County,/Newspaper) and ploughing thru' the snippets returned. To find it on FindMyPast try completing the fields as follows -

Who optional - enter (1)"thomas" (2) jones"
What else? optional - enter "woore"
Date -  1850-1899
Newspaer - Northwich Guardian

Should return 4 hits. You'll notice the 3rd hit refers to "Thomas Jones, Solicitor" but when you read the original (foot of column 1) it reads "Thomas Wyndham Jones, Solicitor"!! I won't go into the vagaries of OCR.

There are half a dozen or so items re. Thomas, mainly adverts, which give his name/office as a contact point. There's also the item about his brief incarceration - although it ends well by noting his assets on release covered his debts.

When searching you need to be flexible. Some items exist under Thomas Jones only - no Wyndham (the original that is, not a question of initial misread problem). I have access to both BNA and FindMyPast. I am comfortable navigating British Newspaper  Archive - I am not comfortable with FindMyPast. Both enjoy the same database.

Gobeithio, bydd popeth yn iawn
