Does the Scotlands People site have all the Registers Online?
« on: Tuesday 21 August 18 12:45 BST (UK) »
Hello

On Family Search, but I can't find this on Scotlands People ...

GEORGE HOOD
Christening:   26 January 1707   , BUNKLE AND PRESTON, BERWICK, SCOTLAND
Residence:      Bunkle and Preston, Berwickshire, Scotland
Father Robert Hood

The reason for my interest in Scotland is that at some point, my Hoods are supposed to have come from Scotland, but if Scotlands People website is incomplete, what other Scottish HOOD events might I be missing out on, when searching the site?

Found at the Borthwick - Marriage Bond George Hood & Maudlin Spencer, Scarbro' 1731

George Hood of Scarborough, Mariner was aged 24.

Leith, 29th January 1736
Arrived the Providence of Scarborough, George Hood, with Lint from Rotterdam.
The Providence was possibly registered or from Scarborough, but when finding this George Hood near Edinburgh in Scotland, with possible Scarborough, Yorkshire links, I was very interested.

If the main Scotlands People website is suspected to be incomplete, not even having full records of Births / Baptisms, it doesn't leave me much confidence in finding all Scottish HOODs and all other events like Marriages (and Burials), to try and work any possibles forward.

Less is often more.  ;)

Enter the surname "Hood" and a date range 1705 - 1710 and you will find that the baptism record is there.

All extant Church of Scotland records have been digitised and made available on ScotlandsPeople.

Hi Nell

Oh thank you, I must be losing the plot.

The vagaries of modern computer search systems.

This use to happen with TNA, Kew, regarding file titles. The file title won't always show sometimes (even though all the search words are in the title).

I should have put in my post above that there are a number of options when searching ScotlandsPeople and  if the "exact" option doesn't work, use "fuzzy" or "name variants."

However, I always start with as little information as possible since I never know how someone chose to record the name - and worse how someone else might have chosen to transcribe it!  ;D
