The RAN - A Brief History
....
From settlement in 1788, to 1859, Australia depended on units detached from the Royal Navy based in Sydney to provide Naval defence. In 1859, Australia was established as a separate British Naval Station, and until 1913, a squadron of the Royal Navy was maintained in Australian waters.

So I have located  the children given as his on the An..try tree with the best sources in the NSW bmd site and they are all there father George mother Mary A so that rules out the Amelia marriage and I know Samuel married Mary Ann so it isn't quite so impossible  now if I can find the mother's surname somehow Ill be much happier any ideas?

Are you referring to Ancestry?

NSW  bdm certs for births are quite informative.   They include details about the parents, the older siblings and other family history info on each child's registration.  So if you were to consider obtaining the youngest child's NSW record you should learn about the maiden name of their mum, her then age, when/where married, to whom, the names/ages of older living siblings, gender of any who had not survived, info also includes dad's occupation, names of witnesses to the birth, usual adress etc etc etc.  Official transcriptions are available and a good option.
