« on: Thursday 30 August 18 22:52 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for spouses and descendants of my great uncle, William Richard HARVEY, b.1887 Q1 London, England.
Parents: Alfred William HARVEY (1852-1897) & Eliza Annie Paine (1854-1934). Annie re-married (John King) in 1904.
William emigrated to Australia between 1911 and 1917. (prob'y 1912)
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force, Feb 1917 (Pte., #3659) in Adelaide, SA.
When enlisting, he stated that his will was being held by a Janet Petrie, on Market St. in Adelaide.
He was discharged Apr 1920.
He died 7 Jun 1941, Adelaide.  Military marker in West Terrace cemetery.
Marital status unknown.  (Not married while in the army.)
Anything at all about William's life in Australia would be much appreciated.
Sussex:  Harvey, Yeomans
Surrey/London/Middlesex:  Harvey, Vaughan, Leah, Bateman, Chapman.
West Yorkshire:  Leah, Hare, Page, Hepworth

Thanks, JM.  I had actually found his service records.  It was his mother's name in there as next of kin that convinced me that I had the right William.  I appreciate these quick responses!  (Humourously, the RootsChat window told me that your reply was posted the day before I put up my post!)

And thanks again!  If it wasn't for his brother Horace showing up in the passenger list — although his middle initial "E" was typed wrongly — I might have ignored that one.  I'm not sure why they called themselves "clerks"; William, at least, was a labourer.  Maybe they thought that "white-collar workers" had a better chance of getting into the country.  I know that Horace ended up back in the UK but I haven't found a passenger list showing his return.

Phil

Hi

A couple of Death Notices in TROVE Newspapers

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?l-state=South+Australia&q=%22William+Richard+HARVEY%22

Cass

Many thanks, Cass!  I hadn't seen those!  Good news and bad news, I suppose ... that certainly looks like my William, but no mention of a spouse would imply that my search for any spouse or descendants of his is about to come to an end.
