There's a possible 1929 marriage in Yorkshire which gives his father as Thomas Hooper, mining official, deceased.

If he was in the RAF and serving after 1920 his records are still with the MOD

A couple of questions:

Do you have the name and occupation  of Frederick's father (from the marriage cert)?
Do you know Frederick's mother's name?

It could be worth finding the parents' marriage (just in case it was after Frederick was born - it does happen - and Frederick's birth was registered under his mother's maiden name).  The 1911 census would be helpful in finding how long the parents were married and how many children they had.

Philip

(ADDED - is the potential marriage found by Osprey your man)

This  marriage on FreeBMD includes  a Postem which says "this is my grandparents marriage fred hooper can not find his birth...around 1896-1899 manchester  - could have been born Lester as his mother was Clara"

There is an WW1 RAF record for Fred Eric Hooper , civilian occupation craneman and electrician, aged 23 years and 1 month on 16.5.17.  It appears to show transfer from the army , but I'm having difficulty understanding it  ;D. It names his next of kin as his mother , again I'm having difficulty ; ? Amy Hooper  of 24 Low ( possibly Tow ) Lane End ,  Hetton Downs  , Co  Durham.
