ancestry trees and tracing further back
« on: Monday 03 September 18 20:48 BST (UK) »
I'm still learning!

I look at ancestry trees but I don't take them for granted....especially if there are no specific source citations.

Anyway, I am seeing if I can trace a William James any further back. He was born in Bromyard, Herefordshire around 1760-1770. He married Susanna in 1794. On find my past, there are 3 different Williams born in that time. On the ancestry family trees, several of them state William's parents as John James and Hester Parton...not sure how to confirm that (other than messaging them). So, am a bit stuck. Do you have any suggestions please?

So have you got him on a tree and getting hints?

Then research any decent hints.....
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

I would start with the names of the children of William & Susanna & if there's no John/James or Hester that may be a clue to not being correct?

Thank you

I have researched the children...so far I haven't found anything. There is a William James on the 1841 Census, but he is living on his own and it could be 1 of the 3 (that I saw on find my past)

I will keep looking.

There's a transcription of marriage between a William James and a Susanna James at Bromyard in 1794 not day / month given (FindMyPast). Is that the couple?
