For info there's a family tree with him on that gives father William Hickling and mother Harriet Moreton which obviously contradicts the certificate you have.

I wonder if the names got confused with others that got married that day.

The tree also says the 1851 census shows him as cousin of Gregory and Ann Moreton but I thought yours was a servant in 1851 not a cousin - will check again!

I think cousin has been crossed out and servant written in but either way maybe the name Moreton is the key?

Something to investigate anyway.

John & Martha Hicklings son Henry from the 1841 census married a Hannah Bridgett in 1856 so it can't be the Henry I am looking for as he was living in Duffield on the 1851 census.
I couldn't find any Hicklings marrying a Charles either when I looked.

The 1851 Duffield Census has got Joseph Cooper as a Cousin and crossed out with Servant and Henry Hickling has got a ditto but whether that was for the Cousin or the servant entry I don't know.

Probably the cousin bit as his ditto would be written at the same time then servant added after.  I would think.

Will have a quick look at the other marriages same time as Henry just in case one of the others has a surname similar to the mystery Charles.

Nope all the other couples have matching fathers names.  Only Henry and Charles' don't match  :(

Will have to leave it there for tonight.  Hope someone can solve the mystery.

There is an 1828 marriage in Duffield of Hannah Moreton to John Key which might provide some basis for further investigation.
