Apologies, should have mentioned that Joseph was illegitimate. Don't know the fathers name.

Frances was born and lived in Ireland until 1933 when her father William died. She moved to London shortly after. Joseph's parents are not listed on the certificate, most likely because the family did not know who they were

Hi

Ok so I have requested a record opening, hopefully it will be the correct person. If not, it not only means another mystery, but opens onto where her son would be if not with his mother.

How old would Joseph be 1939? If he isn't with parents, as they lived in London he may have already been evacuated.

He would have been about 11 or 12 years old. He might have been evacuated though I am not sure if such records survive

If he was evacuated he’d be recorded with that family. So if he doesn’t turn out to be the one who is closed, try searching with just Joseph and his date of birth as he could be anywhere in the country.

If he had relations in Ireland he may have been sent to stay with them, quite a lot of children were, several of my cousins spent at least some of the war years with their grandmother in Ireland. 1939 might be a bit early for this though.

School children were evacuated from London starting 1st September 1939, and the 1939 register was taken after that, so he may well have be sent away.

Hi guys

So an update

Submitted Joseph's death record. Apparently Joseph is not the closed record, it's someone else, though I do not know whom. I checked the 1939 register for Joseph and at the moment I cannot find him, but I will keep looking. It's likely then that Joseph has been evacuated. Or maybe he was left in Ireland with an aunt or uncle perhaps. Frances was one of about 15 siblings

I appreciate the help this far though. My thanks

They answered quickly didn't they?  ;D

Do you have Joseph's date of birth? Was he Joseph Fitzpatrick? It would well be that when there was talk of evacuating children it was decided that he'd be better of with family in Ireland than with strangers.
