Is this decorative watch chain a medal?
« on: Sunday 30 September 18 15:55 BST (UK) »
Hi, can anybody advise if this is a medal on the end of his watch chain?  Or was this a common sort of a decorative end piece?
Thanks
Rowanali

I would say not a medal from the armed forces.

Honestly, it could be anything - a family trinket, issued by a church or society.........

http://www.silvercollection.it/dictionaryfob.html has a couple of examples.

Agree with Philip, not armed forces.

It is of a pattern called a cross pattee, often mistakenly called a Maltese Cross.  A number of organisations used the pattern so it may be an ornament  or the emblem of a specific organisation.  as Philip notes.  One looked at here on Rootschat relatively recently was the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps in Ireland.
