What became of Emma SHELTON b Bet. Apr–Jun 1872 Ealing
« on: Monday 08 October 18 09:16 BST (UK) »
I am unable to locate Emma SHELTON b Bet. Apr–Jun 1872 Ealing after the 1891 census when she was a house maid at Ludgrove House at Hadley, Monken Hadley, Hertfordshire. Source Citation: The National Archives of the UK (TNA); Kew, Surrey, England; Class: RG12; Piece: 1053; Folio: 17; Page: 27

Emma was a daughter of John SHELTON & Mary WILKINSON and sister to Fanny SHELTON.  unfortunately I have not been able to locate a baptism for Emma.

Assistance appreciated.

Freebmd has 4 marriages in the London/ Middlesex area for her name between 1892 and 1899 - have you checked them?

You can rule out the 1897 to John Thomas as her father was Richard

Are her parents alive in 1911 to check number of children still living?

The parents married 1871 (bachelor & spinster) and the cert does show her as Mary.  mmn for both Emma & Fanny's birth was Wilkinson

Deaths Mar 1875
SHELTON    Mary    30    Brentford    3a   64

Hello Carol & Milliepede,

Many thanks for your efforts.

Have not as yet had a chance to look for London/ Middlesex area  marriages.

In the 1911 census john and his second wife Elizabeth nee FRAZER are living in Kent.  The census record is somewhat strange as the number 41 is listed under the number of years married which is incorrect as that would mean John & Elizabeth married in 1870.  We know they married in the 4th quarter 1877.

But nonetheless their son Albert  seems to have survived as the number of children listed is 1.

But as Emma & her sister Fanny were children of the first marriage they don't seem to be listed possible because they weren't issue of the second marriage.

John died in Mar 1917.  As yet I haven't located Elizabeth's death.

John Fardell Shelton buried at Hither Green Cemetery, 1 February 1917.
Index says one other in the grave, but no sign so far that the other person is Elizabeth Shelton.
