GRO downloadable certificates question
« on: Wednesday 17 October 18 11:25 BST (UK) »
Hi, has anybody used the GRO to order an online copy of a birth marriage or death certificate?

I ordered one about 4 days ago but ive had no response other than to confirm payment.

Does anyone know how long these take to come through - i cant find any information about how long it takes online.

Many thanks, luke

THey usually give you a date of dispatch on your e-mail confirmation, even though it's dispatched electronically.   Otherwise, you can check by logging in and checking your orders.

There's a listing on the right hand side which has My Orders about half way down. Click on that.

I tried to order a PDF copy yesterday but the option to do so was not available.    Maybe the trial has finished.

Please ignore - was trying for a marriage cert - yet another senior moment!!!!!

From my experience

pdf images I have ordered take about a week.
copies by post take around 7 to 10 days.

Gadget's advice is (as usual) spot on.  :)

The trial was extended some time ago, and is now "open-ended"  ... the entry you wanted may have been outside the historical years that are available as pdfs.

Of the many I order - I can only think of one which was delivered later than the estimated despatch date (by 1 day ) - the vast majority arrive on that date or often the day before.

I ordered a PDF death certificate about a fortnight ago; the confirmation email said that the document would be available in about four working days.   I ordered the cert on a Friday and got an email the following Thursday to tell me that the PDF was ready for me to access.

My recent PDFs from GRO took exactly 1 week. When you get to the section where you can see your order, before confirming the order, the date the PDF should be available is clearly shown.
