Reseaching Matthew Parents and his marriage to Lydia  ??
Matthew died   25th April 1850 Thorncombe
Wife Lydia died 16th November 1859 Thorncombe

1841 Matthew/Lydia and Son George are not born in Devon.

FreeREG has no Baptisms/Burials but has several Marriages in Thorncombe, Dorset* for the name Bowditch.

There is a mix up for the counties Thorncombe is named as being in the county of Dorset and in Devon according to Genuki

I can find only 1 christening;

There is a John/Lydia also;

I viewed the census on A....y it clearly said Devon but I think it was their error.
I did come across the following.
Mathew Bowdidge, Baptism Date:1 Feb 1795
Baptism Place: Chard, Somerset (4 miles from Thorncome
Father:Will'M. Bowdidge Mother: Ann Bowdidge.

The census was Dorset and Matthew & Lydia were not born in County.

Lydia is too old to be Williams Mother, he is likely a Grandson through one of the Daughters;

Many Thanks already tried to do this earlier and had the incorrect family so many Bowditch`s in
Dorset

Matthew Bowdidge of Chard had siblings George & John. There was one other family there in the period spelt Bowditch.


I’ve tried to trace Thorncombe, Devon and as far as I can see it does not exist, the only one of that name is in Dorset, very close to the Somerset border.
