Hi
Possible at National Archives though unfortunately record closed till 2022  http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C16590727

There is a record in POW records for the following amongst a list of Navy/ Merchant Navy POWS though if it is your Alexander is unsure

Camp     Mil. Nord
pow no.  90262
Alderson Al
M. R. Boy  (I think Mess Room Boy)
Ship...British Union

Mil. Nord probably is Milag Nord camp   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlag_und_Milag_Nord which mentions Stalag X B

Just to confirm. British POWs Released at the End of Hostilities. HMSO. Says his rank was Mess Room Boy.
There will be some details of his internment from.

You may also wish to look at the Logbooks and Crew Agreements of BRITISH UNION official number 149943. These may give you possibly more background information

BRITISH UNION was sunk 18 January 1941 by the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran.
