I had the good fortune to visit St Peters on Saturday but I'm afraid I couldn't find any deaths from the 1800s. I did find a few Dochertys and McGowens but these were all deaths in the 1900s.

The cemetry itself is huge. It's alot bigger than I every imagines. As a consequence I didn't get to look around the whole cemetry in my 3 hour stay so the headstones could be in there somewhere. I'd imagine it would take over a day to look around the whole place. Luckily my dad had a rough idea of where my great grandparents were buried but even then it still took those few hours to find them.

Apologies that I could not find what you were looking for. We do have other family there that I know for a fact are buried there but could not find them either. There are also alot of headstones which are virtually impossible to read and these were not even as far back as the 19th centuary so it is a big task. For anyone going I would suggest maybe checking out the Mitchell Library Burial Index first or it could be a few days of long searching.

If you can manage to go to Dalbeth from a Monday to a Friday  between the hours of 10am and about 3.30pm and have the lair numbers then the groundsmen or the manager will locate the lairs for you.

I have found their help invaluable when tracing family lairs.

Sorry Nina I took so long, nothing in (James Docherty) the Mitchell Library. Your best bet is to try the Archdiocese http://www.rcag.org.uk/

I was at the archdiocese offices last week to look for deaths the girl gave me an e-mail address if you know the exact date of death she can look it up for you. My friend was with me and she knew when her gran died and she looked it up and also told her who else was in the lair and the location . Her name was Sharon e-mail address is dalbeth[at]rcag.org.uk (Replace [at] with @)

OOPS....wrote this whole message using my rootschat CHATROOM name...it is ME, Ninatoo!

Goodness Bankie...how did I manage to NOT thank you for your efforts back in October?  Please accept my belated thanks, as I really appreciate your effort!

Neleh, thanks for the information, I will email my details and see what they come up with.

I visited another site recently and they were saying that Dalbeth is behind locked gates and a big fence, and also that it is now extremely overgrown, which is very sad.  So I guess all of that would make it difficult to find a lair.

Still hoping.....
Nina

Hi Nina,
must be some other cemetery. (There is one nearby which has gone to ruin).
Dalbeth is very well kept.

Ah...thanks Cathy....yes, rereading at the other site, it does say there is an old and a newer cemetery.  I wonder where my ancestor will be...the old I imagine!

All the best,
