Need help with photo please

I hope someone can help. I have a badly damaged photo of my great-grandmother Mary Carson Johnston. It is the only photo I have of her.

I have cropped away all the mess around the 2 people, which I dont think could be fixed. It makes you focus on the people and not the potential confusion around them.

Also kept the picture a bit rough, I found using to much smoothing filter reduced the overall look of it as the lady seems to be wearing a fur coat and made it look strange.

I dont think I have left any duplicated cloning stamps.

re-cropped lower part of photo, and smoothed out the background. I think this makes then stand out more

Just a quick repair.

I couldn't seem to get much adjustment on the contrast without making very dark patches which looked awful. And the picture seemed to get rather odd when the colour was removed, so I left it. Hopefully someone else will be able to get the shadows a bit more uniformly dark.

Thank you so much to everybody.  They all look great. I really did think that this photo was a hopless cause.
