Yes please; still trying to find a connection.  It seems the only way I am going to do this is by eliminating everyone through BMDs. I have just read 222 pages of one parish and found some new Osmotherley people. ::) It all helps, our Robert must be somewhere and it does not look like he was born in Kent. Very possible he came down through the Church to start a school. Am following up that idea. His son was definitely involved with Rochester Cathedral.  I have access to Parish Records for Kent through the Medway archives project and cannot find any reference pre the baptism of son John at St. Nicholas Rochester, which is adjacent to the Cathedral; alhtough now offcies and inaccesable.

Thanks Susan

As well as the a2a references there are a few Osmotherly men at Oxford and Cambridge.   Most are earlier than the 18th century but there is also:

Salkeld Osmotherley son of Cuthbert of Langrigg, gentleman who matriculated from St Edmund Hall, Oxford on 4 May 1725 aged 20.

Cuthbert also gets at least one mention in a2a with associations to Gilcrux and Plumbland.

I am researching the Ostle family of Cumbria ;

Mary Osmotherley , born 1667, married John Sibson ; their daughter Agnes , born 1685, married Daniel Ostle in 1704.

I am trying to find ancestors of this Mary Osmotherley

Hello
There are a few 18th century Carlisle marriage licences featuring Ostles (and variants).  Any interest?
